A Higher Source This rare underwater view of the sun through the tube of a wave is one of my favorite images. Not only was it a challenge to position and capture but it has now become very symbolic to me. This was taken on the last day of a 3-week trip to Tahiti in May of 2001. It had been a great trip bonding with the people and understanding their culture and I had captured lots of nice photographs of my new friends. I had not, however spent much time shooting waves, as the weather (wind, rain, overcast, swell) conditions were not ideal. I woke up on the dawn of May 16th, 2001 to a clear sky and dead winds and knew that this was going to be the day to shoot in the waves. It was in fact the best day of lighting the whole trip and I swam for hours over the reef capturing images like this. I felt quite fulfilled to say the least. In this piece " A Higher Source," I enjoy the way the sunlight is filtered through the wave and framed up by the darker water on the edges of the frame. The humble angle of view is a result of me lying low to the reef and looking up to the wave and Sun. This was a short but beautiful quiet moment before the wave exploded into a turbulent, cloudy storm. Life is like this too as we all have moments where we can see the light but soon enough we're facing a storm. It is those great moments of seeing the light that often get us through those rough times. Here is a moment of light to appreciate and maybe it'll help you through your your storms. The light is our source of life. It gives us hope and blesses us. Ρ Jon Mozo
