Waves

Glass Tip I love how the tip of this pitching wave, just before contact, is permanently frozen in time in this image. She is a beauty with great hollow form, smooth face, and a skin tone that reflects the sky and filters the reef. The sun looks on and sheds light on her and the land in the distance. This was shot on the last day of a 3 week trip to Tahiti in May of 2001. Prior to the day this was shot I was feeling a bit discouraged, as the weather (wind, rain, overcast, swell) conditions were not cooperating most of the trip resulting in me not producing many ocean images and feeling like I was going to go home empty handed. However, I woke up before dawn on May 16th, 2001 to a clear sky and dead winds and knew that this was going to be the day. I had a beautiful time swimming alone out on the reef and chasing waves and scenes like this. I felt like I was living a dream, it was in fact the best day of shooting the whole trip and I felt quite fulfilled to say the least. Ρ Jon Mozo |
